Wondering if I need to go back in and look at my seat again. I'm wondering if maybe I was trying to get it to do too much too fast. Wondering if I were to treat it more like Architecture not count on it to do anything but plans for the time being , that it might not feel as tedious. It is more a question of having enough book sales to justify the time it takes to update a book.
Sadly, sales of books have fallen in general, such that yearly updates are not feasible. The book will still be quite relevant for the basics of ACA. It is sad. No comparison print vs digital. I was rushing that response to beat the planned shut down of our network at pm this evening. I was compensated for my time, but have no financial interest in sales of the books. I can tell you from personal experience that a LOT of time goes into a proper update of one of those titles, trying to work in something about the new features without exceeding the maximum number of pages, while not losing significant coverage of previously existing features, all while verifying that all of the previous tutorials still work the same way in the new version.
Were there any changes to the prompts, or the order of the prompts? Does a new feature make a previous section obsolete? Has the look and feel changed so much that all new screen captures need to be produced? Obviously, the book will not include any features added in or later, and the screen capture graphics will be slightly different, both cosmetically the ever popular redesigned icons and because new tools for new features result in rearranged ribbon tabs.
That said, the basics of using ACA and particularly using Project Navigator have not changed substantially, and I believe you could use the book with a more recent release without too many disconnects.
FWIW, even Revit books are not always updated every year now, either. Too many people are happy enough to piece things together from blog posts here and videos there, and the occasional posting to a Discussion Group when neither of those sources yield an answer to the problem at hand. What those sources offer in terms of low to no cost, addressing a multitude issues well beyond what any one book could cover, they do lack the organized, comprehensive approach that a well-written book can provide.
But if no one is buying, the publishers will not publish. Yes, I would imagine it would get very complicated fast Can't blame them for not publishing.
I understand the shortcomings of buying an older version of the book but all things considered seems like my best option. Thanks for the feedback.
