I wanted to update the BIOS over the net. Also the windows does not boot any longer on this system so that I could get this information from the "System Information".
I tried to boot the system with knoppix, but again it is not of help as the keyboard does not work. It just works only sparingly. May be once or twice in twenty or so attempts. For a clue, the system is infected with a virus which creates an exe file in folders. Exe file is created with the name of the folder in which it is created. Is this something which has infected BIOS? Looks bad, but I finally did the update to AVG 8.
After tweaking a few settings it seems to work fine and is not bogging down my machine at all, as others have complained about I'm sure there are valid arguments to switch to Avast or Avira but I wanted to check out the "new and improved" AVG first My AVG 7. It says The license number is refused.
The license number is blocked. Suddenly, today, it woke up to that fact and blocked it. I worry that means I won't be getting updates from this point on I guess it means it's time to move to Avast, or possibly install 8. Whatever, this sucks.
On the subject of having to move to something else if this is finally the end. If I install AVG 8. And if so, it AVG 8. Avast or AVG 8. I've only installed 8. You could just reinstall AVG Free 7. Of course, then you'd be as silly as I am, just waiting to see when it finally stops updating for real.
Well that's good I guess. What I don't understand is why you're futzing with bogus keys. You don't need "bogus" keys to use AVG Free, and whether 7. A long license won't help if updates stop coming. You may be right. I originally had AVG 7. When I decided I wanted to go back to 7. It allowed me to reinstall 7. I used the free trial key and it worked for several months. When it expired not too long ago, I started using bogus keys to keep it active.
Maybe I best try tracking down a copy of AVG 7. My version is reported as plain "AVG 7. Edit: I can't be sure whether those are all the "Free" version or not. I'm afraid you'll have to check. No wonder it sucks. Don't you still have to turn off the silly "certifications" for inbound and outbound e-mail too? Fickey Terrorists target your backbone join Another option to obtain AVG 7.
Opened up AVG 7. Clicked it to manually update and AVG reports everything is up to date--when obviously it's not.
So, is this the proverbially it? Is this the official end? Just thought I'd check with other AVG 7. Le Boule join Selma, AL. My version seems officially dead now. I get a pop-up saying 7. I can still login to the update download but no new definitions are available. Oh well. It was nice while it lasted.
